Völliges Neuland betrat das Team Dörr Motorsport (DEU) am vergangenen Osterwochenende auf dem 3,636km langen Circuit Paul Armagnac in Frankreich. Etwas weniger mehr als eine Woche Zeit blieb, um die beiden McLaren MP4 12C GT3 für den ersten Lauf in dieser neuen Serie aufzubauen.

„Wir waren mit den fertig aufgebauten Autos kein einziges Mal auf der Rennstrecke. Für jedes Teammitglied und für die Fahrer war es eine große Herausforderung, die wir aber sehr gut gemeistert haben. Ein dickes Danke an das erfahrene Team von H.T.P. Motorsport, mit dem wir als Boxennachbarn gut zusammengearbeitet haben.“ so Teammanager Uwe Isert.

Gestartet wurde dann jedoch nur mit einem McLaren (Startnummer #16) mit den beiden deutschen Fahrern Niclas Kentenich und Daniel Keilwitz, da ein Fahrer des anderen Autos erkrankte und nicht starten konnte.

Die beiden freien Trainings wurden optimal genutzt, um das Fahrzeug und die Rennstrecke kennenzulernen. Die beiden Fahrer steigerten sich von Runde zu Runde. Zu Beginn betrug der Abstand zur Spitze über vier Sekunden. Im ersten Qualifying zeigte Daniel Keilwitz, dass das Team auf dem besten Weg war, er beendete seinen Stint in dem sehr starken Fahrerfeld auf P5 mit 1:29.990 Sekunden, nur acht Zehntel hinter dem Schnellsten. Im zweiten Qualifying holte Niclas Kentenich unter schwierigen Bedingungen und bei Gelb- und Rotphasen P19. Aus den Zeiten der beiden Qualifyings wurde dann für das Team Startplatz 19 für das Qualifying-Rennen ermittelt.

Zum Start des Rennens herrschten trockene Verhältnisse. Keilwitz kam beim Start sehr gut weg und überquerte die Ziellinie nach der ersten Runde bereits auf P14, den er zum Fahrerwechsel mit in die Box brachte. Kentenich übernahm das Cockpit von Keilwitz und wollte zu seinem Stint starten, jedoch sprang der Motor nicht an. Ein gebrochenes Kabel am Anlasser bedeutet in diesem Moment das Aus im Qualifying Rennen.

Beim Start des Hauptrennens am Sonntag begann es zu regnen. Diese schwierigen Wetterbedingungen während der gesamten Rennzeit und ein nicht ganz optimal gewähltes Setup machten es dem Duo Kentenich/Keilwitz nicht einfach, Plätze zu gewinnen. Auf P16 liegend überquerte Keilwitz die Ziellinie am Ende des einstündigen Rennens.

Teammanager Uwe Isert: „Ich bin mit dem ersten Wochenende sehr zufrieden. Die Mannschaft hat eine tolle Arbeit geleistet, muss man doch bedenken, dass das Team bisher nur bei der VLN-Langstreckenmeisterschaft auf dem Nürburgring im Einsatz war. Auch die beiden Fahrer haben einen einwandfreien Job gemacht. Keiner von ihnen war vorher im McLaren gesessen und kannte diese Strecke auch nicht. Schade war, dass der Anlasser beim Fahrerwechsel kaputt ging.
Der Einsatz in Nogaro hat uns gezeigt, dass wir auf dem richtigen Weg sind und uns als Neueinsteiger nicht verstecken müssen.“

Teamchef Rainer Dörr: „Das war ein guter Start für uns in dieser Serie. Alle Teammitglieder haben ihr Bestes gegeben und unter den Umständen auch sehr viel erreicht. Wir konnten beweisen, dass wir uns von Anfang an im guten Mittelfeld platzieren können und das ist ein tolles Ergebnis. Wir freuen uns schon auf die zweite Runde in Zolder in drei Wochen.“

Als Aprilscherz entpuppte sich eine offizielle Meldung, dass der ehemalige McLaren-Formel 1-Rennfahrer John Watson (GBR) für Dörr Motorsport im McLaren MP4 12C GT3 in Nogaro an den Start gehen wird.

Das nächste Rennwochenende findet vom 20.-21. April 2013 in Zolder (BEL) statt.

Top International – FIA GT Series: Dörr Motorsport pleased with first event of the FIA GT Series

The Dörr Motorsport team (DEU) entered new territory competing at the 3.636-km Circuit Paul Armagnac in France at the Easter weekend. They only had a little over a week to set up the two McLarens MP4 12C GT3 for the first event of this new series. “Not once did we drive on the racetrack with the completely set up cars. It was a big challenge for every member of the team and the drivers, but we coped very well. I would like to thank the experienced H.T.P. Motorsport team. We were neighbours in the pits and worked together well,” says Team Manager Uwe Isert.

In the end, only one McLaren (#16) with the two German drivers Niclas Kentenich and Daniel Keilwitz in the cockpit competed in the race. One of the drivers of the other car was ill and unable to participate.

The team used the two free practice sessions in order to make themselves familiar with the car and the racetrack. Both drivers improved lap by lap. Initially the distance to the lead was more than four seconds. Daniel Keilwitz demonstrated in the first qualifying that the team was on the right track. Despite the strong competition, he finished his stint in P5, in 1:29.990 seconds and only eight tenths of a second behind the fastest car. Niclas Kentenich secured P19 in the second qualifying which was dominated by challenging conditions and yellow and red flags. The times set in the two qualifying sessions resulted in the team's start position 19 for the Qualifying Race.

The race started under dry conditions. Keilwitz managed a good start and completed the first lap in P14 which he defended until the driver change. When Kentenich took over from Keilwitz the engine did not start. A broken cable on the starter resulted in an early retirement from the Qualifying Race right there and then.

It began to rain in time for the start of the Championship Race on Sunday. Considering both the difficult weather conditions throughout the entire race and a set-up which was not ideal the task to gain places was not easy for the duo Kentenich/Keilwitz. Keilwitz finished the one-hour race in P16.

Team Manager Uwe Isert: “I am very happy with the first weekend. The team did a great job. Keep in mind that they have only taken part in the VLN Endurance Racing Championship Nürburgring so far. Both drivers did a fantastic job as well. Neither had driven a McLaren before or knew the track. It is too bad that the starter broke during the driver change. The event in Nogaro proved that we are on the right track and do not need to hide as a new team.”

Team Principal Rainer Dörr: “This was a good start into this new series for us. Everybody in the team did their best and we did quite well considering the circumstances. We showed that we are able to compete in the middle field, which is a great result. We are looking forward to the next event in Zolder in three weeks time.”

The official announcement that the former McLaren Formula 1 driver John Watson (GBR) was to compete for Dörr Motorsport in the McLaren MP4 12C GT3 in Nogaro proved to be an April fool's joke.

The next racing weekend will take place in Zolder (BEL) from 20 – 21 April 2013.

A equipe alemã Dörr Motorsport entrou em um novo território ao competir no fim-de-semana de Páscoa nos 3,636 km do Circuito Paul Armagnac, na França. Eles tinham pouco mais de uma semana para concluir a montagem dos dois McLarens MP4 12C GT3 para a primeira corrida desta nova série.

"Nem uma vez que nós entramos na pista com os carros completamente prontos e acertados. Foi um grande desafio para os pilotos e todos os membros da equipe, mas conseguimos lidar bem com tudo. Gostaria de agradecer à experiente equipe H.T.P. Motorsport, quem temos trabalhado bem juntos como vizinhos de box", disse Uwe Isert, Gerente da equipe.

No final, apenas um McLaren (#16) com os dois pilotos alemães Niclas Kentenich e Keilwitz Daniel no cockpit competiram nas duas corridas. Um dos pilotos do outro carro ficou doente e não pôde de participar.

A equipe usou as duas sessões de treinos livres para fim de se familiarizar com o carro e com a pista. Inicialmente, a distância para o líder era de mais de quatro segundos, mas os dois pilotos melhoravam à cada nova volta. Daniel Keilwitz demonstrou na primeira sessão de qualificação que a equipe estava no caminho certo, pois, apesar da forte concorrência, terminou a prática na P5, com 1m29s990 e apenas oito décimos de segundo atrás do carro mais rápido. Niclas Kentenich garantiu a P19 na segunda sessão qualificatória, que foi marcada por condições de pista desafiadoras, recheada de bandeiras amarelas e vermelhas. Os tempos estabelecidos nas duas sessões de qualificação resultaram na 19ª posição do time para largar na Corrida de Qualificação.

A corrida começou sob condição de pista seca e Keilwitz conseguiu fazer uma boa largada, completando a primeira volta na P14, posto que manteve até entrar nos boxes para a troca de pilotos. Kentenich assumiu o cockpit de Keilwitz, mas o motor não ligava em razão de um fio partido no motor de arranque e que resultou no abandono precoce da Qualifying Race.

Começou a chover na hora da largada da Corrida Principal (Championship Race), no domingo. Considerando tanto as difíceis condições meteorológicas durante toda a corrida inteira, bem como um set-up que não era o ideal para a tarefa de conquistar posições, não foi nada fácil para a dupla Kentenich/ Keilwitz. Mesmo assim, Keilwitz completou a corrida de uma hora de duração na P16.

"Estou muito satisfeito com este primeiro final de semana. A equipe fez um grande trabalho, mas é preciso lembrar que até agora a única experiência da equipe era no Campeonato de Resistência VLN em Nürburgring (VLN Endurance Racing Championship). Os dois pilotos também fizeram um trabalho fantástico. Nenhum tinha sentado antes em um McLaren, ou sequer conhecia a pista e é uma pena que o motor de arranque tenha quebrado durante a troca de pilotos. O evento em Nogaro provou que estamos no caminho certo e não precisamos nos desculpar por ser uma equipe nova", esclareceu o Team Manager, Uwe Isert.

"Para nós este foi um bom inicio nesta nova série. Todos os membros da equipe têm feito o seu melhor e o fizeram muito bem, dentro das circunstâncias. Nós provamos que somos capazes de competir no meio do pelotão e isso é um grande resultado. Estamos ansiosos para o próximo evento em Zolder, daqui a três semanas", disse o Chefe de Equipe Rainer Dörr.

O anúncio oficial de que o britânico John Watson, ex-piloto da McLaren Fórmula 1, iria participar das provas em Nogaro no McLaren MP4 12C GT3 da Dörr Motorsport era uma piada de Primeiro de Abril.

O próximo final de semana de corridas será em Zolder (BEL) nos dias 20-21 Abril de 2013.
