Bertrand Baguette, Martin Plowman and Ricardo Gonzalez will contest this year’s FIA World Endurance Championship aboard OAK Racing’s #35 Morgan LM P2, the French team is pleased to announce today.

The championship’s ultra-competitive LM P2 class has prompted the team to field two equally strong driver line-ups for its pair of Morgan LM P2s. Each will be relying on the already proven package of Morgan chassis – designed and built by OAK Racing’s manufacturer department Onroak Automotive – Nissan engines and Dunlop tyres, with whom OAK Racing has renewed its official partnership for a fifth-straight season.

Former single-seater and IndyCar driver Baguette remains with the team for a second campaign after making his endurance racing debut in the 2012 WEC as part of OAK Racing’s LM P1 programme. The Belgian can also count on his familiarity of the Morgan LM P2 gleaned during last season’s European Le Mans Series in which he formed part of the winning driver crew at Donington Park. Clearly his experience will prove invaluable.

Likewise Martin Plowman who, having also previously raced in IndyCar, made the switch to endurance racing last season. Several class victories and pole positions behind the wheel of a Morgan LM P2 in the American Le Mans Series contributed to an impressive debut for the Briton who will now carry his existing knowledge of the car into 2013.

The line-up’s silver-grade position has been filled by 35-year-old Mexican Ricardo Gonzalez who, despite being new to the team and car, is no endurance racing novice. Stints in Formula 3 and World Series by Renault were followed by a seven-year break from motorsport, before returning in 2010 to contest the American Le Mans Series’ LMPC class. Having won the title in 2011, he switched to the WEC’s LMP2 category last season.

Like the championship itself, #35’s line-up is of an international standard just like that of the sister #24 machine which was announced last week as Olivier Pla, Alex Brundle and David Heinemeier Hansson. Both will carry the Le Mans-based squad’s traditional pink and black livery.

The driver line-up, livery and programme for OAK Racing’s #45 Morgan LM P2, which will include the Le Mans 24 Hours, is due to be announced shortly.

Together they can also work with #24’s drivers. This is a genuine opportunity to run two entries capable of fighting for victories and start the season with a car that has a year of development behind, not to mention one that proved itself during 2012. We should be at the heart of the battle”.

Martin Plowman:

“I'm excited to finally be able to announce my plans for the upcoming campaign. It has been a long off-season for me and I am extremely grateful to OAK Racing for showing their belief in my abilities by bringing me into the team. Last year I had a successful debut season with their chassis in the American Le Mans Series, so to get the call from the factory team to race in the World Endurance Championship is a huge honour. There will be a lot of hard work ahead to prepare for the season but I will be surrounded by a very strong engineering team and, of course, partnered with two very strong drivers who I respect. I can't wait to get to work, especially as we look towards the Le Mans 24 Hours. It is one of the top three races on my bucket list, so to finally be able to take part in such a historic race will be a dream come true”.

Ricardo Gonzalez:

“I'm very excited to be joining OAK Racing this year. We had a long off-season and took our time to evaluate all the options to make sure we could find the best programme for me. We wanted to ensure that I could fight for the championship and victory at Le Mans. There's no doubt that we have achieved that: OAK Racing has always been a top team and I have no doubt that we will be one of the cars to beat. This will be my second year in the FIA World Endurance Championship, so now that I have more experience under my belt and know all the tracks it’s time to go to every event with nothing but a win in mind. Today we are beginning our testing programme and it will be a good chance to get to know the team and my team-mates, and start preparing for the first race at Silverstone. I can't wait to drive the Morgan LM P2 for the first time and to get back behind the wheel after such a long off-season.”

OAK Racing will take part in the official FIA WEC pre-season test at Paul Ricard on March 29/30 in preparation for the opening round at Silverstone on April 13/14.

International – FIA WE: Bertrand Baguette, Martin Plowman et Ricardo Gonzalez sur la Morgan LM P2 n°35 de OAK Racing en WEC

OAK Racing est heureuse d’annoncer que Bertrand Baguette, Martin Plowman et Ricardo Gonzalez feront équipe sur la Morgan LM P2 n°35 du team français, engagée en Championnat du Monde FIA d’Endurance, le WEC.

Face à une catégorie LM P2 particulièrement relevée, OAK Racing, qui engage deux prototypes sur la totalité du Championnat du Monde, pourra compter sur des équipages compétitifs et un package qui a déjà fait ses preuves: châssis Morgan, créé et fabriqué par son département constructeur Onroak Automotive, moteur Nissan et pneumatiques Dunlop, partenaire du team pour la cinquième année consécutive.

Bertrand Baguette, effectuera sa deuxième saison dans l’équipe. Le pilote belge, à la suite de sa carrière en monoplace et en IndyCar, a en effet débuté en endurance chez OAK Racing en 2012 en LM P1 en Championnat du Monde et a participé à l’European Le Mans Series avec l’équipe en LM P2 notamment à Donington où il a accroché une belle victoire. Son expérience sera précieuse.

Le britannique Martin Plowman, lui aussi issu du monde de la monoplace et de l’IndyCar, s’est tourné vers l’endurance l’année dernière où il a fait de brillants débuts, totalisant plusieurs victoires et pole positions en American Le Mans Series, au volant d’une Morgan LM P2, dans la même configuration. Il est donc aussi très familier du package 2013.

C’est le pilote mexicain Ricardo Gonzalez qui assurera le rôle du pilote silver de cet équipage. Bien qu’il soit nouveau venu de l’équipe et découvre cette année la Morgan LM P2, ce pilote de 35 ans n’est pas un novice en endurance. Après des débuts en monoplace, Formule 3 et World Series by Renault, suivis d’une interruption de sept ans dans sa carrière sportive, il est revenu à la compétition en 2010 en American Le Mans Series sur une Formula Le Mans. Il a remporté le titre de cette catégorie en 2011. S’en est suivie une saison en WEC en catégorie LM P2.

A l’image du Championnat, l’équipage de la n°35 s’avère de très haut niveau et à caractère international, tout comme celui de la n°24, annoncé récemment et qui réunira de son côté Olivier Pla, Alex Brundle et Davide Heinemeier Hansson. La n°35 portera elle-aussi les couleurs rose et noir, chère à l’équipe sarthoise.

En ce qui concerne la LM P2 supplémentaire engagée aux 24 Heures du Mans, la n°45, son équipage, son programme et sa livrée seront annoncés très prochainement.

« L’intersaison a été très longue pour moi et je suis vraiment très heureux de pouvoir annoncer mes plans pour la saison qui vient. Je suis très reconnaissant à OAK Racing de me faire confiance et de me prendre dans leur équipe. L’année dernière j’ai réussi un très beau début de saison sur leur châssis en American Le Mans Series, aussi je considère qu’être appelé par OAK Racing pour le Championnat du Monde FIA d’Endurance est un immense honneur. Il y aura beaucoup de travail de préparation en amont, mais je sais que je serai entouré d’une équipe technique très solide et de co-équipiers talentueux pour lesquels j’ai beaucoup de respect. J’ai vraiment hâte de me mettre au travail, en particulier en ayant à l’esprit l’objectif des 24 Heures du Mans. C’est une des trois courses que j’ai toujours rêvé d’inscrire à mon panthéon personnel, et c’est un rêve qui devient réalité ! »

«Je suis très enthousiaste à l’idée de rejoindre OAK Racing cette année!  Nous avons eu une longue intersaison et nous avons pris le temps d’étudier toutes les options possibles afin de choisir le meilleur programme sportif. Nous voulions être sûr de pouvoir nous battre pour le titre en Championnat du Monde et la victoire aux 24 Heures du Mans. C’est chose faite ! OAK Racing est depuis longtemps une écurie de top niveau et je suis sûr que nous avons la voiture pour gagner. Ce sera ma deuxième année en Championnat du Monde FIA d’Endurance. Maintenant que j’ai plus d’expérience dans le baquet et que je connais tous les circuits, il est temps pour moi d’aborder les épreuves avec une seule chose à l’esprit, la victoire. Aujourd’hui nous commençons notre programme de tests et ce sera l’occasion de me familiariser avec l’équipe et mes co-équipiers et de me préparer à la première course à Silverstone. Je suis très impatient de conduire la Morgan LM P2 et de me retrouver derrière le volant après une si longue intersaison ! »

OAK Racing participera aux Essais Officiels du Championnat du Monde FIA d’Endurance sur le circuit Paul Ricard les 29 et 30 mars en prélude à la première épreuve qui se déroulera à Silverstone, les 13 et 14 avril.
